Canadian Conscription

The issue of conscription has been of utmost importance in Canadian politics through the years. When Prime Minister Bordon introduced the concept to increase the numbers for the Canadian Expeditionary Force in 1917 a chasm of opinion opened between English Canada and French Canada. The issues and opinions that drove the conflict over conscription were more concerned with the differences in the political viewpoints as to the obligations of citizenship of the dissidents than the issue of involuntary military service.
