HIV and Barriers to Condom Usage as a Means of Prevention

A 12 page overview of the relationship that exists between condom use and the prevention
of the sexual transmission of AIDS. The author examines several prevalent ideological barriers to that utilization. These include: conflicting
information from government officials (and even a flagrant lack of awareness), misinformation about what acts are actually “safe sex”, lack of
planning, oral sex not being considered “real sex”, loss of pleasure, inconvenience in the “heat of the moment”, being in a “regular relationship”,
drug use, alcohol, the impact the successes witnessed in HAART treatment has made in regard to removing the urgency and perceived risk of AIDS.
