Altered States of Consciousness and Hypnosis

This 10 page
report discusses hypnosis and the altered state of consciousness
it produces. While the term “hypnosis” often carries a certain
number of negative connotations that do not truly convey the
beneficial and physiological relation response that is the
legitimate hypnotic response, many people are still hesitant
about the concept in general. The simple fact is that hypnosis is
not a form of mind control and is not the will of one person
being exerted over another. Health professionals, mental health
counselors, even sports performance consultants advocate hypnosis
as a form of stress reduction, pain management and personal

Focusing on the Kalamazoo Asylum, this paper notes the inadequacies and the historical circumstances which created them. While facilities such as the Kalamazoo Asylum may have been considered a reflection of enlightened public policy in its heyday, today they are considered an antiquity which should be abolished. This is an 8 page paper providing an example of a Professional Disclosure Statement for a Licenced Professional Counselor. “Professional Disclosure Statements” for Licenced Professional Counselors vary somewhat from state to state but overall contain vital information relating to what details, history and qualifications the counselors must disclose upon introduction to the client and in turn what rights the clients have in terms of session, communication and report information which may or may not be disclosed by the counselor. For the large part, clients’ information is only disclosed upon written authorization from the client. Confidentiality may not be guaranteed however in some situations which include times when the client may be a serious threat to him or herself or others; when there is reasonable suspicion of child abuse or abuse of the elderly or infirm; when a court order is issued; or when the information is used in defense to a formal complaint to the counselor among other instances. Professional disclosure statements begin with information about the counselor(s) and then proceed to the confidentiality and disclosure rights of the clients.
