Internet addiction, also known as Internet Addiction Disorder (IAD), Internet Behavioral Dependence (IBD) or Problematic Internet Use (PIU), is considered a behavioral or social pathology similar to other nonchemical addictions such as pathological gambling, or compulsive shopping, sex or over-eating among others and has become an international concern. There are considered several different sub-types of internet addiction such as cyber-sexual addiction for those who are addicted to pornographic or sex web sites; cyber-relationship addiction for those who are addicted to online relationships; net compulsions which include internet shopping and gambling; information overload for those who compulsively surf the web or search databases; and computer addiction which is related to compulsive playing of computer games. Generally, internet addiction is assessed and treated similar to other addictive behavior which may include the 12-step program, cognitive therapy or other therapies such as expressive art therapy. Investigating Advice on Communication Between Couples

There are very good self-help books available discussing the male-female romantic relationship, but the reader does indeed need to be aware of the discrepancies of many of them with both current communications research findings and common sense. With the exception of Gray, every one of the problems discussed in both the books and the communications journal articles referenced for this paper has as its base a lack of honesty on the part of at least one, and normally both involved players. Such issues as dual-relationships, sexual behavior and bartering for services are just a handful of considerations to make when examining the unethical behavior found in Irvin D. Yalom's "Every Day Gets A Little Closer," where two decidedly distinctive accounts of the same therapeutic process is provided – one by the therapist and the other by the patient. Indeed, the variance that exists between these two reports is enlightening enough on their own accord, however, when one delves deeper into the specific elements that ultimately comprised this experience, it becomes quite clear that ethics comes into question.
