The author observes that while sometimes a therapist is able to achieve trememdously positive results in regard to the mental well-being of their patient, other times the therapeutic environment can not only be characterized by failure but can even be counterproductive. Nesler, Storr and Tedeschi (1993) conducted a study of female college students using the Interpersonal Judgment Scale (IJS) as the instrument by which the researchers rated a "liking" scale.
