Anderson's "Feed" - Sinister Possibilities And Prodding
[ send me this paper ]
5 pages in length. M. T. Anderson's science fiction novel Feed is, in short, the twenty-first century's version of Orwell's 1984 where the ideas found within the pages are so seemingly far-fetched that they amount much more to an offbeat and amusing tale rather than something readers should actually take to heart. The concepts in George Orwell's novel, however, have slowly but surely integrated themselves into contemporary society whereby people have come to realize much more truth than fiction in this imaginary tale. The same will likely be said about Feed in the coming years inasmuch as consumer overload already has a strong foothold in today's world; what this book serves to do is point out the sinister possibilities of a global society where social interaction is reduced to mind chat and monosyllabic verbal utterances, and the prodding of embedded consumerism that reinforces the power of twentieth century excess. Aspects of an Ideal Society Using Key Elements from Ancient and Modern Societies
[ send me this paper ]
This is a 5 page paper discussing elements of an ideal society based on those from ancient or modern day societies. Societies of Ancient Egypt, the Roman Empire and Modern Sweden are used to improve that currently in the United States. An outline is included. In creating an ideal society based on the aspects of the current society in the United States elements from past and present societies could be included as improvements. Ancient Egypt and the Roman Empire provide good examples of more centralization in regards to political, economical and legal systems. In the United States currently, the voting system for federal, state and municipal elections allows for the a representative government headed by a majority party, yet the President may not in all cases be represented by that party as he or she is elected separately. This being the case, often legislative actions are stalled such as those currently involving healthcare. Health care is one of the major negative components in the United States today. An example of a good health care system comes from modern day Sweden where federal monies are dedicated to the mental, physical and social health of the population despite whatever economic recessions exist. In regards to education, the last recorded literacy rates in the United States were high suggesting that despite the current private and public education debate currently afflicting the United States, overall the U.S. has a good commitment to education and this commitment should continue to increase for an ideal society.
