Gladstone and Chamberlain
[ send me this paper ]
Joseph Chamberlain and William Gladstone had many opposing views which came to a head over the Home Rule vote in 1886. This 16 page paper looks at the diverse views of these two men, with Gladstone advocating dissemination of the imperial colonies into self governing entities and Chamberlain advocating imperial protectionism and emancipation. However, despite these two different political views on empire and imperialism it can also be argued that the politicians had similar goals, it was only the way these goals were achieved that differed. Glorious Revolution
[ send me this paper ]
A 5 page research paper that examines the bloodless revolt of 1688-89, referred to as the "Glorious Revolution," the competing political factions of the country, the Whigs and the Tories, united to dispose James II and in favor his daughter Mary and her husband, William, Stadtholder of the Netherlands. While this extraordinary chain of events may seem out of context with the century of stability and security that followed, it really was not. As William B. Willcox, of Yale University, has pointed out, it was James II who was the revolutionary and not the insurrectionists. Bibliography lists 3 sources.

Governing Institutions, Political And Cultural Life, Economic Infrastructure Characteristic Of Sultanates In India Between The 13th Century And The Coming Of The Mughals In 1526
[ send me this paper ]
6 pages in length. When one examines India's historical perspective, it is often with significant consideration that the Sultanate period is credited with perpetuating change that had already begun to take place. Expanding agriculture, widespread commercial systems, slow but sure changes based upon growing technological advancements, as well as political and religious growth all played an integral role in the impact left by the Turkish/Afghan regime. According to Barbara and Thomas Metcalf, authors of A Concise History of India, these changes could not have taken place had India been what many thought to be a "stagnant society" (Metcalf et al 3), but rather could only have occurred in an ever-growing, ever-progressive civilization. Greece and Britain: The Fight for the Elgin Marbles
[ send me this paper ]
5 pages in length. In
1802, Thomas Bruce, the seventh Earl of Elgin, known as Lord Elgin, secured
permission to remove what the sultan called some pieces of stone with
inscriptions or figures from the temple of idols at the Parthenon, in Athens,
Greece. Ever since gaining independence in 1812, Greece has demanded the
return of the marbles. They are national treasures. Does Greece have a right
to demand their return? This paper is a close examination of the arguments on
both sides that can perhaps give more insight to these and other questions.
Bibliography lists 7 sources.
